Blended Learning Lesson 6. Manipulation: Disinformation, Manipulative Headlines and Photos
If you are an educator – a teacher or a trainer – who wants to use Very Verified in class, we are happy to offer you nine lesson plans and presentations we have prepared for blended learning sessions. If you intended to use the materials, you are free to, but we would be happy to know that they have been useful. Let us know at info@veryverified.eu!
Lesson 6 is the first of two lessons devoted to manipulative content on the media, mainly online. It covers the three main types of manipulative content – disinformation, misinformation and malinformation, and discusses manipulative headlines and images, as well as the basics on how to verify them, using a real image that went viral on social media in the Baltics. It also introduces more complex types of visual manipulation – deepfakes and cheapfakes, and again offers tips on how to unmask them. It corresponds to Unit 4 Part A and B.
